Ride4UnitedWay – (It started almost 192 years ago.)

"Thank you all for your participation in the 2009 Ride4UnitedWay. The riders, donors and volunteers all contributed to an outstanding success. Pledge totals exceeded thirty five thousand dollars, and we are grateful to the Oshawa Cycling Club and the support of critical members who were instrumental in the success of this event. We hope you will all join us on Sunday August 29, 2010 for what we know will be a bigger and better event."

From its invention in the early 18th century, through it’s time as man’s first mechanical relief from walking and reliance on animals in   transportation. There can be no doubt that the bicycle has played an extraordinary role in the transformation of our culture and life.

From an acknowledgment by Susan B Anthony that the bicycle "has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world.”*: to the realization that the growth in bicycle usage led to the development of the need for a system of roads and signage which eventually benefited the development of the automobile: there can be no doubt that the bicycle has played an extraordinary role in the transformation of our culture and life.   (Remember those two bike guys who wound up building the first airplane, and flying it!)

Now, you and your bicycle can help make our community a better place to live, work, or play, raise a family, start a business, go to school, find a job or retire. You can literally: Ride For Your Community.

We invite you to join us for a ride in which we hope you will celebrate the pure joy of a ride, the beauty of the countryside, the companionship of friends, and the joy which comes from knowing that by joining us you will be able to help those a little less fortunate. In difficult times we have an opportunity to “listen to our better angels” and are reminded that by helping others we ourselves benefit, that when we help those least advantaged we strengthen the entire community.

Whether you are an experienced road racer, cycling enthusiast, cycling tourist, or fitness rider: whether you ride to be alone or to meet people: whether you do 10,000k’s/year, or haven’t been on a bike since “I don’t know when”. You are invited to ride with us on Sunday. Aug. 29, 2010. When you Ride4UnitedWay you will ride for yourself, for your health and the well being of others, and most importantly for a grateful community.

To register at any time, simple click on “register now” and make a commitment to join us on Aug. 29, 2010 for a great day on a bike. If you wish, don’t hesitate to call us at 905 436 7377 if you have any questions relating to the ride or the United Way in our community.

There will be:

- Prizes for participants and incentives for fundraising.
- Challenges for teams
- Good companionship and good food at the end of a great ride

But most importantly we hope you will enjoy a day on your bicycle with us.
