Welcome to the Ride4UnitedWay site.
The Ride4UnitedWay event is now in it’s fourth year and has grown each year in multiple dimensions. We are proud of the wonderful support we have received from our participants, and hope that you will join us for a great day of cycling.
Elsewhere on this site you will find testimonials from just some of the positive feedback we’ve received, an explanation of the event details, and overview of the fund raising incentives and prizes if you wish to raise funds for the event. While we encourage fund raising, and it is the primary purpose of our engagement, fund raising is not mandatory. We are thrilled to have you come out, pay your registration, and enjoy a great day of cycling in Durham with us.
The United Way in Durham Region supports more than 50 local charities. From food banks and shelters to program for children and seniors. Support for the United Way is used to support a great diversity of need. We do it in a highly efficient and effective fashion which optimizes donor value. Donor value is at the core of our mission. If you take up the fund raising challenge. Thank you. If you’re not able to fund raise, thank you for riding with us, and helping us make this a great event. We value your participation.
Our original concept was to create a cycling event which would be enjoyable and interesting and challenging for all levels of cycling enthusiasts. From experienced fitness and enthusiast road cyclists to those who are just getting into cycling we think we are in the process of building an event which will have broad appeal and become a fixture in the cycling calendar for years to come. There are three principal course distances (60k, 100k and 160k) plus a community course, and there is our “event within the event.” The Heartbreak Hill challenge. We have expanded the Hill challenge this year. The distance timed will now include more than 5km of distance over three fairly stiff climbs, and will conclude on the original Hill which is slightly more than a kilometer in distance and about a 10% average grade.
“Not simply a charity ride.” That was our objective, and with the enthusiasm of our participants, the help from our partners and sponsors and the support from local government we will continue to build toward this objective. We invite you to join us by registering using the links on this site, or contact us at the United Way in Durham Region. You may email or telephone (905) 436-7377.
