2010 Ride – Web – Media

The Ride4UnitedWay will take place on Aug. 29, 2010.

The event will begin from the Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex on Hwy 2 at Hwy 57 in the Town of Bowmanville, Municipality of Clarington. A mass rolling start with full Police escort will leave very promptly at 8am. Riders are strongly encouraged to pre register on line, on site check in and same day registration will be available on the campus at 6:30 am on Sunday August 29, 2010.

The Ride is a partnership between the United Way of Oshawa/Whitby/Clarington Brock & Scugog and the Oshawa Cycling Club. The principle purpose of the ride is to raise funds for the United Way. Secondarily, the ride will promote the sport and recreational aspects and benefits of cycling, in particular in the Region of Durham.

The United Way in this community supports a great diversity of need, and the ride will contribute greatly to the success and momentum of the annual community wide drive.

Upon announcing the event this year Robert Howard, Campaign Director with the United Way said: “We are fortunate to have partners like the Oshawa Cycling Club, Bicycles Plus and Impala Cycle, the Region of Durham and the Region Tourism people as well as our friends at Rogers who care deeply about the health of this community, and will help to ensure the success of this event.

There are fabulous prizes and incentives for riders and donors to the riders, but “we know that the greatest award for riders and donors is the knowledge that their efforts are helping those less fortunate” said Mr. Howard.

The ride is designed to attract a broad cross section of fitness and enthusiast cyclists, and well as experiences road cyclists and former racers. There are four distances which participants may choose from: 60K’s, 100K’s and 160K’s. The ride is fully supported by volunteers on the course who will help with providing hydration and nutritional support.
